After last year’s successful Women Veterans Recognition Day in Monroe County, a new women veterans group erupted in hopes to recognize, celebrate, and be of service to women veterans of Western New York. Meet MAFFIA (Military Armed Forces Females Inspiring Action).
MAFFIA held their 2nd annual Women Veterans Recognition Day celebrated on Thursday, June 12, 2025 expanding and celebrated in 2 counties, Monroe County and Ontario County. This year we honored the service of the women veterans of the Vietnam War on its 70th anniversary.

The Monroe County was hosted again by the amazing Cha Cha Guerrero. Legislator Virginia McIntyre beautifully sang the National Anthem. Our event had special words from our Deputy Mayor Michael Burns, a Congressional Award was presented to US Army nurse & Vietnam veteran, Donna Korf by Congressman Joe Morelle’s via Brooke Strausbaugh. Our signature roses were gifted & presented by Assemblyman Demond Meeks. Legendary words & and a wellness activity on building community was presented U.S. Army Col. (Retd.) Nancy Bird. Lastly, closed out with a poem reading by Liz Medina.

It was a pleasure to witness the women of the Vietnam Era reconnect with each other and share stories on their selfless call to action. They are legends, heroines, and leaders that one would be so lucky to be inspired in their life time.
Thank you to the MAFFIA for expanding this event to Ontario County this year reaching double the audience we had last year.
